WHAT IS BOSUTINIB AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR?

Bosutinib is a small molecule BCR-ABL and src tyrosine kinase inhibitor indicated for the treatment of: 

Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia: For those patients who are adults and carrying Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) with resistance, or intolerance to prior therapy. 

Bosutinib has also shown activity against the receptors for platelet-derived growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor.

Bosutinib Dosage

Bosutinib 500mg should be taken orally at about the same time each day, either with or without food. Bosutinib tablets should be swallowed whole with water. The tablets should not be opened, broken, or chewed.

  • The most common adverse reactions include Nausea, Myelosuppression, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Raised ALT, Raised AST, Rash, Arthralgia (joint pain), Fever, Oedema, Fatigue, Cough, Headache, Reduced appetite, Respiratory tract infection and Diarrhoea.

Warnings and Precautions
  • The use of Bosutinib is contraindicated for the, known hypersensitivity to bosutinib and liver impairment.
  • Need to monitor liver enzymes at least every month in order to the initial three months and as needed. Withhold, dose reduce, or discontinue BOSULIF.
  • Patients should be monitored for renal function at baseline and also during the therapy with BOSUVI.
  • Females of reproductive potential should avoid becoming pregnant while being treated with Bosutinib. The medication may cause fetal harm.
  • All the patients should be monitored and also should be managed by using standard of care treatment.
  • If you’re willing to take an antacid or H2 blocker medicine, take it at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after Bosuvi. If you take a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) medicine, talk to your healthcare provider.
  • Breastfeeding should be avoided. It can harm your baby. You and your healthcare provider should decide if you will take Bosuvi or breastfeed.
  • Administration of Bosulif should be avoided as it is not known if this medication is safe and effective in children who are less than 18 years of age.
  • Females should use effective birth control (contraception) during and for at least 30 days after the final dose of BOSULIF. Talk to your doctor about forms of birth control that may be right for you during such circumstances.
  • Patients should be advised of the possibility of developing renal problems and to immediately report frequent urination, polyuria or oliguria.
Supplied/Storage and handling

Care should be exercised in the handling of BOSUVI. BOSUVI tablets should not be opened or crushed. Store permitted between 15-30°C (59-86°F).
