Methylprednisolone Tablet

The initial dosage of Methylprednisolone Tablets may vary from 4 mg to 48 mg daily on behalf of the specific disease entity being treated. In circumstances of less severity lower doses will generally suffice while in selected patients higher initial doses may be needed. The initial dosage needs to be maintained or adjusted until a satisfactory response is noted. If after a reasonable time-span there is a lack of satisfactory clinical response, Methylprednisolone therapy should be interrupted and the patient transferred to other appropriate therapy.

The most commonly reported side effects due to methylprednisolone tablets may include: trouble sleeping, appetite changes, vomiting, heartburn, headache, dizziness, increased sweating, nausea, or acne.

• Kaposi’s sarcoma has been noted to emerge in patients taking treatment with corticosteroid therapy. Interruption of corticosteroids therapy may result in clinical remission.
• Pheochromocytoma crisis, which can be fatal, has been noted following administration of systemic corticosteroids, including methylprednisolone 8 mg or any other dosage strengths. Corticosteroids should only be used in patients with suspected or identified pheochromocytoma after an apt risk or benefit evaluation.
• Thrombosis including venous thromboembolism has been noted to emerge with corticosteroids. As a result corticosteroid therapy should be used with precise caution in patients who have or may be predisposed to thromboembolic disorders.
• As sodium retention with resultant edema and potassium loss may occur in patients receiving corticosteroids, these agents need to be used with precise caution in patients with congestive heart failure (use only in case strictly necessary), hypertension, or renal insufficiency.
• Because glucocorticoids may be responsible for producing or aggravating Cushing’s syndrome, glucocorticoids including (methylprednisolone 32 mg or any other dosage strengths) needs to be avoided in patients with Cushing’s disease.
• Allergic reactions (angioedema) may emerge. Because rare instances of skin reactions and anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions have emerged in patients with methylprednisolone therapy, apt precautionary measures need to be considered prior to use, especially when the patient has a known history of allergy to any medicine.
• Caution is needed in patients with systemic sclerosis because an increased incidence of scleroderma renal crisis has been noticed with methylprednisolone. Treatment with methylprednisolone 16 mg or with any other dosage strengths needs to be used with precise caution in patients with renal insufficiency.
• Use of live or live, attenuated vaccines is restricted in patients receiving treatment with immunosuppressive doses of Methylprednisolone. While on Methylprednisolone therapy patients should not be vaccinated against smallpox.

Store this medicine in a closed container at controlled room temperature 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F). Protect it from freezing, and keep it out of the reach of children.
