The initial dosage needs to be maintained or adjusted until a satisfactory response is noted. If after a reasonable time-span there is a lack of satisfactory clinical response, Methylprednisolone therapy should be interrupted and the patient transferred to other appropriate therapy.

  • Because glucocorticoids may be responsible for producing or aggravating Cushing’s syndrome, glucocorticoids including (methylprednisolone 32 mg or any other dosage strengths) needs to be avoided in patients with Cushing’s disease.
  • Allergic reactions (angioedema) may emerge. Because rare instances of skin reactions and anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions have emerged in patients with methylprednisolone therapy, apt precautionary measures need to be considered prior to use, especially when the patient has a known history of allergy to any medicine.
  • Caution is needed in patients with systemic sclerosis because an increased incidence of scleroderma renal crisis has been noticed with methylprednisolone. Treatment with methylprednisolone 16 mg or with any other dosage strengths needs to be used with precise caution in patients with renal insufficiency.
  • Use of live or live, attenuated vaccines is restricted in patients receiving treatment with immunosuppressive doses of Methylprednisolone. While on Methylprednisolone therapy patients should not be vaccinated against smallpox.
