Ribasure is a nucleoside analogue indicated for the treatment of: 

Hepatitis C; Chronic hepatitis C is treated in combination with other antiviral agents with the intent to cure or achieve a sustained virological response (SVR).

Viral hemorrhagic fever; It is taken in several fever such as Lassa fever, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever and Hantavirus infection.

RSV infection (Human Orthopnemovirus); RSV infection is a syncytial virus that causes respiratory tract infections.

Ribasure Dosage

Ribavirin (Ribasure) should be taken orally at about the same time each day, either with or without food. Ribasure is taken once daily according to body weight and genotype. Use of this drug during pregnancy may cause birth defects to the baby so it is commonly advised to take effective birth controls for at least 7 months.

Side effects

The most common side effects of ribavirin in adults receiving combination therapy are fatigue/asthenia, pyrexia, myalgia, and headache. This treatment can also cause some serious side effects such as red blood cell breakdown, liver problems, and allergic reactions.

Warnings and Precautions

Care should be exercised in the handling of Ribasure . Ribasure capsules should not be opened or crushed. Store permitted between 15-30°C (59-86°F).

  • Discontinue the nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors or reduce dose or discontinue interferon, ribavirin or both with the worsening toxicities.
  • Concomitant administration of azathioprine with ribavirin is known to reduce the severe pancytopenia and may increase the risk of azathioprine associated myelotoxicity.
